Blepharitis

Blepharitis is a chronic inflammation of the eye lids typically caused by presence of bacterial flora on the eye lashes or excessive oil production at the glands near the eye lash follicle. This condition is often associated with allergies or lid hygeine issues. Blepharitis can also be brought on by decreased immunity from a systemic condition or medications taken orally. Determining the cause is important before deciding on a treatment plan for this condition. There are several forms of blepharitis and many treatment options available. Another secondary complication that blepharitis may cause are styes. If you frequently have styes let your eye doctor know so that this can be addressed as well. Typical treatments include topical antibiotics, lid scrubs, and/or warm compress applications.
