Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) is a great way to reduce the dependence on glasses and contacts for people who are nearsighted. This method utilizes a special lens that is worn during normal sleeping hours in order to reshape the front surface of the eye, specifically a layer called the cornea, into a shape that corrects myopia (nearsightedness) and a small amount of astigmatism. Our office offers the Emerald Ortho-K lens which has full FDA approval for overnight wear for people up to -5.00D of myopia and up to -1.50D of astigmatism.
